No To Negativity

Wednesday, 24 August 2016

As a performer, as a creative and as a Londoner you can be surrounded by negativity most the time.

We all know those people that constantly complain. We all have been on a tube during rush hour where everyone looks miserable as sin. And we all have been negative ourselves.

This attitude is very contagious and not useful in any way. Negativity feeds negativity.

As an actor I have many friends who complain constantly, whether about the job they didn’t get, the lack of auditions they’ve had, the jealousy they feel towards others or the general state of the world.

Now I am by no means perfect either and have moments where I can find myself negative towards a situation. But one thing I know I am good at is noticing I am being negative and bouncing back from it.

I try to turn every situation, thought or feeling into a positive. Force a smile wherever I can. The world can seem pretty dreadful and terrifying at times so I think that in day to day life people should brush off that negativity they have about meaningless stuff and see the light in every situation.

Even when I find myself doing things that I don’t want to do (say for example earning money to pay rent in a non creative way) I just think that this is not permanent and no situation whether good or bad lasts forever.

Maybe you haven’t had an audition this month or for a few months but that can change. Keep pushing and moving forward.

Maybe you are stuck in a job that you don’t enjoy and want out but remember nothing is forever, just make your small changes everyday to change your situation.

The most toxic people are those who complain constantly as you will feel yourself down around them and complaining yourself. You do not need this, you do not need them, as hard as it may be, move on from them. As I said negativity feeds negativity.

I like to wake up every morning and in my head as my feet touch the ground I say thank you. Thank you for another day, thank you for another chance and thank you for my life. It may seem silly but it puts me in a great mood straight away and I am in a positive mind-set from the word go.

Give positivity a chance in your life, forget the negative thoughts when they arrive and try my morning thank you.

Let me know if it works for you or any other methods you have. Because if we are all positive and work together, think how great that would be.
