My Top 5 Classic Halloween Movies

Friday, 28 October 2016

I am a massive fan of the Horror genre and with the Halloween weekend (yes it seems to have a whole weekend this year) I have decided to share my top five 'classic' Halloween films.

I have chosen 'classic' films as I love to watch the old movies because they inspire me so much as an actor and a director much more.

Of course there are many more movies to choose from but this is what I will be watching this weekend, and Monday of course.

#5 The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974)

Directed by Tobe Hooper and based on ACTUAL EVENTS (WTF!!!!) the original is so much more horrific and tense than the 2003 remake. TTCM is a fine example of how a horror film should be made and is honestly scary from the word go.

#4 The Shining (1980)

OMG if you haven't seen this film you must. Directed by the legendary Stanley Kubrick and starring the inspirational Jack Nicholson. This is not just a brilliant film but also a masterpiece of a psychological horror.

#3 Nightmare Before Christmas (1993)

The jury is still out whether this is a Christmas film or a Halloween film. Personally I could watch it any day of the year I love it so much. Directed by Henry Selick and written by Tim Burton, this is the perfect film to put on, smile and sing along to.

#2 Hocus Pocus (1993)

A great Disney family, Sunday movie, with witches, spells and some great laughs. You cannot go wrong with this movie directed by Kenny Ortega (High School Musical) and starring Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy. This film is the definition of a 'fabulous Halloween film'.

Interesting Fact: Leonardo DiCaprio was originally going to play the role of Max but eventually turned it down to be in 'What's Eating Gilbert Grape'.

#1 The Exorcist (1973)

Directed by William Friedkin this is the ultimate horror film! This film started of a new branch of horror films we still enjoy and see in the cinemas today. The Exorcist was first horror film to be nominated for a Best Picture Award at The Oscars. This terrifying film will have you under the covers still today and up all night wide eyed. If you haven't seen this film before, do for it is so well made and genuinely scary.

So there you have it, my top five 'classic' Halloween films. Do you agree and what will you be watching?

A big thank you to HMV for providing me with 'Hocus Pocus' and 'The Exorcist', grab your copies here.
