Straight To The Future

Monday, 17 October 2016

So this is a very different post than I was going to write today, but I had a catch up with one of my best friends Naomi Slights and thought what we were chatting in the Picturehouse Central about was inspirational and may help others.

Naomi and I have been friends for years. She is an amazing singer, actress and dancer and is about to head off on a cruise (yay! I can't wait to visit) but we got on to the conversation of the future of after her ship and the future for me.

As performers the future can seem very daunting. You are getting a few jobs a year, working in other areas around them and not really sure where your life is going because it changes daily.

I can have a ten minute panic once in a while about why am I not a famous and successful actor and filmmaker yet and will it ever happen. But what you have to remember is the future hasn't happened yet and why worry about what might not happen rather than what could happen.

For example day to day people worry about things that might happen. I might be late, I might not be able to pay that bill or I might not want to or enjoy doing that. None of that matters, it's your fear talking and what is honestly the worst that is going to happen.

I am going to remind myself this daily that the 'what if I don't get to where I want to in life' is not important and what is important is I am going to put all my energy and thoughts into 'I am going to get to where I want in life'.

It's a simple mind switch but we aren't all aware of it. My dreams may take time and they might not come this year but I am going to keep loving what I do and create and work everyday to make them happen.

Switch your mind set.
